Since the Panda update in 2011, webmasters and SEO pros have increasingly moved towards the realization that the best thing you can do for a website is fill it with high quality content. This year, Searchmetrics published a massive study that backs up this conclusion with 80+ pages worth of evidence.
The study does post a huge disclaimer; correlation does not equal causation. What they have studied over the last several years is the correlation between certain actions and the changes that take place in the ranking of a site, its traffic and its visibility. In the end, this is just a correlation; it does not necessarily mean that these ranking factors are 100% causing the changes in ranking observed. However, reams of evidence and positive correlation indicates that, even though we don’t know the Google algorithm, we can reasonably assume that what has been concluded is accurate.
In other words; nothing is 100% certain, but it’s pretty damn likely that these conclusions are true.
