In ages past, PageRank was one of the most important parts of Google’s search algorithm.  It was the core, the foundation, the center of the complex calculations that determined where in the ranks your page might fall.
Since those glory days, PageRank has done nothing but fall.
The Golden Age
Years ago, PageRank was powerful.  It was a quick, visible indicator of the value of your site.  This is why, for a long time, Google kept it relatively hidden.  After some time, the search giant released a toolbar that would show the PageRank of a site when you visited it.  This was immediately picked up as a powerful tool by webmasters, and that’s where it all began to go wrong.
Webmasters are their own worst enemies.  It’s a constant struggle to keep ahead of Google’s changing guideposts, a constant fight to maintain relevance in oppressive currents.  Yet you can’t lay back and float, for other webmasters will exploit that weakness and push your site down to their benefit.
