SEO News You Can Use: Google Add New Determining Factor to E-A-T Guidelines

On December 15, 2022, Google updated its quality rater guidelines; this time, it’s experience that counts. The concept E-A-T or experience, authoritativeness and trustworthiness now has an additional criterion – expertise, meaning a content creator’s expertise will now be a quality rating factor when it comes to search rankings.

Google’s search quality rater guidelines have been updated and now include the acronym E-E-A-T (expertise, experience, authoritativeness and trustworthiness).

Quality raters will now consider content creators’ first-hand experience with the content. Additionally, Google is also focussing on trustworthiness. The higher the content creator’s level of expertise, the higher your website’s E-E-A-T score.

Pages with a low E-E-A-T score or YMYL-type pages providing inexpert content will be considered untrustworthy and rated low.

According to Search Engine Journal, Google also pointed out that having a good reputation will not accommodate a low E-E-A-T score. To get a high E-E-A-T score, specifically when showing expertise, it’s great to include others with similar experience, especially on socials.

In other words, a very long title may be cut off in search results.

Google Publishes Interesting Research Paper: Resembles Helpful Content Algorithm?: Google recently published a research paper with insights that interestingly resemble the Helpful Content Algorithm. The paper speaks of using artificial Intelligence (AI) to determine the quality of a page. At this point, it is still speculation; however, there are some stark similarities between the two. According to Search Engine Journal, Google tweeted the first notification of the Helpful Content Algorithm on December 6, 2022, stating that it would improve its classifier. It’s also not a manual or spam action. Other similarities include that it’s a ranking signal and determines whether humans have created the content. The last similarity is that it’s not a once-off but rather a “series of improvements, said Danny Sullivan, Google’s public Search Liaison.

ChatGPT Watermark May Be Added in the Near Future: OpenAI’s ChatGPT-generated content may be easily identified by a watermark. OpenAI plans to use cryptography to add the semi-transparent watermark feature in the form of text or a logo. This will showcase whether the author of the content is ChatGPT. Scott Anderson, an influential and well-known computer scientist, says the reason for adding the watermark feature is to prevent misusing AI in a way that doesn’t benefit humanity. ChatGPTis a large language model (LLM) designed to help align AI systems with human goals and values. It is still not determined when the feature will be added. It could be in the final stages or possibly during the testing stages. For more detailed information, visit Search Engine Journal here.

WordPress Doesn’t Automatically Mean Improved SEO Says Google’s John Mueller: Contrary to popular belief, WordPress will not necessarily give you the edge over newly coded websites when it comes to rankings. According to John Mueller, Google Search Advocate, WordPress does not have a search engine optimization (SEO) advantage. Instead, the main benefit of using WordPress is that it’s a lot easier and more convenient than coding an entire site from scratch.
