SEOblog Interview: Los Angeles SEO Expert Monica Garrett from Margaux Agency

We’re excited to have interviewed Los Angeles SEO Expert Monica Garrett from Margaux Agency for the next installment of our Featured SEO Expert Series!

Margaux Agency is one of SEOblog’s Top SEO companies in Los Angeles.

Monica Garrett is the CEO and founder of the Margaux Agency, a Los Angeles County-based digital marketing agency. A seasoned expert in design and digital marketing, Monica has developed a sleek and recognizable brand for the agency as well as for her clients. Her passion for her work, eye for detail, the trust built with clients and a deep understanding of marketing are the secrets to the success of her agency.

What would you say is unique and/or challenging about the current Los Angeles SEO industry?

“SEO is a very complex industry full of layers that are changing everyday. Quite literally, Google changes its algorithms daily, and it’s up to those in the industry to keep up. This poses a challenge for all SEO experts to constantly be applying techniques and reporting on results.”

What is the best advice you ever received in business as a female entrepreneur?

“Women leaders should approach the role and responsibilities with open minds and an eagerness to learn from the mistakes of those before us. Often this means looking to how men have approached these roles historically. When we reflect on what worked and what didn’t, we begin to see solutions and opportunities for change. Always be learning and be aware of your own limitations to increase your performance.”

What do you think is the most important quality that makes an agency truly great?

“With thousands of creative agencies in Southern California, Los Angeles is one of the most competitive regions for digital marketing agencies. Beating the noise and standing out in the marketing industry is daunting for any boutique agency in the heart of L.A. However, at Margaux Agency, we refused to back down, and were eventually named one of the Top Social Media Agencies in Los Angeles by Yahoo! and Agency Spotter, and have since taken on partnerships with brands such as Nike, Gorjana, Nekter Juice Bar, the NFL and Sephora.”

Any predictions for the future of SEO?

“What I’m seeing now, and what I’m truly excited about, is that SEO education is going beyond certifications and onto more accredited programs equivalent to a college degree. Google just launched new certifications that hold the same weight to employers in topics such as data analytics and project management that I’m excited to learn more about.”

What is your reaction when you hear that “SEO is dying”?

“SEO is never dying; rather, it is changing. Simply put, change is expected – especially on the web. People change and the internet is a dynamic environment where links disappear, competitors gain a footing and content changes. All of this is expected and should not deter anyone from thinking that SEO isn’t a successful tool to use.”

What do you think is the most important contributor to keeping clients happy?

“Communication. Without open and frequent communication, you cannot build sustainable trust. This doesn’t mean just pleasing them with words, either. It means showing the client your commitment through action and keeping their best interest in mind, even through all the hiccups a project can bring. You should look at a client relationship the same way you look at any other meaningful relationship in your life: How can your bond grow stronger? How can you effectively problem solve? How can you get on the same page? Transparency is the answer.

“There will be times where you’re spread too thin and need to move a deadline or believe that a different course of action would benefit your client’s plan. You’re human! That’s part of the job. The key during these tricky conversations is to earnestly communicate with them, rather than having to face them later when you’ve failed to meet their expectations. Your client will respect you because they will be able to see that you are thinking ahead, bringing them into the conversation and considering the ultimate success of their business.

“At the end of the day, nothing makes a client feel as happy as hearing ‘How else can I help you?’ and knowing that their partner means it.”
