SEOblog Interview: Philadelphia SEO Expert Mac Frederick from Momentum Digital

Philadelphia SEO Expert Mac Frederick from Momentum Digital

We’re excited to have interviewed Philadelphia SEO Expert Mac Frederick, from Momentum Digital, for the next installment of our Featured SEO Expert Series!

Momentum Digital is one of SEOblog’s top SEO companies in Philadelphia.

Momentum Digital is a boutique digital marketing agency that focuses on growing small businesses through local SEO and paid advertising. We were founded in 2015 by ex-Googler Mac Frederick and are currently headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. Our agency helps small businesses across the country grow their digital presence online. Similarly, we have a division known as Momentum 360 that provides property marketing for all types of businesses that helps them build their digital footprint.

What would you say is unique and/or challenging about the Philadelphia SEO industry?

“Philly is actually a small big city, meaning that it’s a close-knit community, especially in the city itself, so a lot of people know each other. There’s also tons of competition, with hundreds of agencies providing similar services. It’s quite easy to network and see a lot of the same people, but can be tough because a lot of large businesses arent in Philly, and a lot of small businesses can’t afford marketing.”

How does your agency stand out in a crowded market like the Philly metro area?

“We focus on unique methods like ‘Small Business Saturday’ to highlight and promote small businesses using video content. Also, being an SEO company, we rank very well for a lot of local-based searches. The ability to promote yourself before your brand can be important, so I spend a lot of time on marketing myself through social media and networking.”

Can you share a success story from a local SEO campaign centered around your area?

“The best case study I can give is with my other business, Phone Repair Philly. I started this with $1,000 back in fall of 2015 in a co-working space and have since grown it to four full retail locations doing over seven-figures in annual revenue. It’s been a grind owning and running two businesses but I can honestly say the main reason PRP is successful is because 80 percent of our leads and customers come from Google since we rank the highest everywhere in the city. Local SEO and Google My Business (GMB) has been the catalyst to our success, with over 100 keywords ranking top 3 on Google Search.”

What is the best advice you ever received in business?

“You can copy from others without reinventing the wheel and/or caring about what they’re doing. Find unique strategies based on what others have done and use that to propel your own business without cheating. Learn from those before you and add your own spin to it.”

What do you think is the most important quality that makes an agency truly great?

“People, process and production.

“People – You need to have the right people in the right place trained to do the right things. This is and always will be the hardest thing for most businesses.

“Process – You need to develop standard operating procedures and processes to running your business. Whether it’s hiring, onboarding, production or more, it needs to have a process.

“Production – Do the work you promise. Have it systemized like a production line.”

Any predictions for the future of SEO?

“Simplified. The older days of backlinking and long-form content wont be as necessary. Google always prioritizes the consumer and their user habits. They care about speed, mobile, video and getting the best answers fast. Google is also putting heavy emphasis on GMB and YouTube. So, follow what Google cares about.”

What is your reaction when you hear that “SEO is dying”?

“SEO will never die because people are curious and need answers. Google will always dominate the arena of providing answers to questions. The problem is, will they always trust businesses to provide those results? It’s going to become more important to become an authority in the search FAQ space.”

What do you think is the most important contributor to keeping clients happy?

“Keeping clients comes down to two things:

“One: doing what you promised; two: keeping a good communicative relationship.

“If you provide both, you can almost keep the client forever. It’s hard to maintain a long-term relationship by providing one without the other. Do the right thing and care about your clients, and put yourself in their shoes.”
